The Unexpected Virtue of Inconsistency: Finding Success Your Way

March 3, 2022

Let’s debunk a popular myth right off the bat: You don’t always have to be consistent to be successful. Now, take a deep breath and let that sink in. This might be a hard pill to swallow, especially if you’ve been riding the wave of consistency propaganda.

The Unspoken Truth About My Battle with Consistency:

Confession time. I’ll share something I once deemed taboo for a content creator or service provider running their own marketing department to admit: Consistency and I aren’t always on speaking terms. It’s just not my jam.

And for the longest time, that realization made me feel…well, pretty lousy.

It felt like a trio of uninvited guests named Shame, Guilt, and Failure crashed my party, overstaying their welcome no matter how much I nudged them towards the exit.

A Fresh Perspective:

Enter Alex (@alexstaceyjames), a beacon of wisdom and an elite performance coach. During one of our sessions, as I passionately recounted my struggles with consistency, she hit me with a revelation. “What’s so wrong with being whimsical, Steph? With making space?”

And just like that, the fog lifted.

The truth is, there’s no universally accepted “way” to success. What’s imperative is finding YOUR way. My unique approach has reaped rewards, from a roster of satisfied clients to unexpected opportunities and even heartwarming feedback.

The Pitfall of Chasing Illusive “Keys to Success”:

Yet, with all these wins, I found myself swayed by influencers who flaunted their ‘key to success.’ But why? Why did I feel my way was any less valid?

There’s immense value in introspection and growth, but that shouldn’t come at the expense of self-worth. It’s time we recognize that chasing the ever-changing “ideal way” of doing things can be counterproductive.

The Real Key: Embrace Your Unique Rhythm:

1. Drop The Ritual Obsession: You don’t need to trap yourself in daily, weekly, or monthly rituals unless they serve you. It’s time to break free from the shackles of routine.

2. Experiment and Innovate: Play with what feels right. Test different approaches and see what resonates with you and your business.

3. Define Your Rules: Instead of adhering to conventional wisdom, jot down your guiding principles. Embrace them, even if it means straying from the mainstream path.

4. Ditch Procrastination: Remember, often, overthinking how to do something perfectly hinders doing it at all.

5. Celebrate Your Wins: Whether you’re a multitasking maven or a single-tasking superstar, rejoice in your achievements, however you get there.

Conclusion:

In a world teeming with guidelines, it’s liberating to realize you have the autonomy to pave your own way. It’s time to throw out the one-size-fits-all playbook and craft a narrative that’s uniquely yours.

So, if you find yourself in a love-hate relationship with consistency, remember: give yourself permission to succeed on your terms. After all, it’s the original paths that often lead to the most beautiful destinations.
